Twitter's New Look

I always get nervous when I log onto a social media site and the layout has changed. Facebook has defiantly scared me for life with their fantastic updates, I never know what to expect.  Here are the great things about Twitter's new look:

1.  Simple - It still stuck to the same layout just flipped sides.  It's still very easy to find what you are looking for.
2.  Borders - What an easy thing to change but it makes such a difference.  It is a great idea to keep that in mind when designing marketing.  See if something simple will change the project.
3.  Pictures - They seem a little bigger which is nice, sometimes you strain your eyes trying to see what the picture is.  This is why it is very important for your brand to be noticed by your picture on Twitter.  Don't do something complex - it's hard to recognize.  Do something simple that pops.

Integrating Your Social Media Accounts

Facebook - Put links to your other social media accounts in your description.  This will help your fans to find out more information about you.  Always have a link to your webpage and your Twitter handle.  Post different pictures or comments promoting people to link to your other accounts.

Twitter - Use short inspiring tweets to promote your followers to go to your website or other account.  Use a sales promotion through twitter like the first 10 customers to make a purchase mentioning the tweet gets 10% off.

Tumblr - The best way to promote other sites through Tumblr is by using eye catching or interesting pictures.  Make sure you label it with the appropriate tags by checking to see what's actually trending.

Google + - So I'm not exactly a professional when it comes to Google Plus.  Honestly, I don't really like it - but I really want to like it.  It seems easy enough to post videos, status updates or pretty much everything that Facebook allows you to do.  I like how it automatically connects your You Tube account so people in your circles can see what great videos you've been watching.

Posterous - Not too many people use this site just yet but it's great for auto posting to your other social media accounts.  You can link this up to your Twitter, Facebook, Fan Pages and a whole bunch more.  It makes it easier to organize your posts and saves you time in the long run.

Be Funny or Loose Sales

If your marketing isn't fun then it probably won't work.  What defines fun?  Anything comical, cute, entertaining or engaging.  In any marketing you do there is a short amount of time to grab the customer's interest.  When the content is fun your customers will enjoy it and remember it.  Here are some examples of each:

1. Comical - Check out these commercials from Old Spice.  Honestly I have never seen them on actual TV, but I always see them on You Tube because they're hilarious and memorable.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNbMvlPc_7U

2. Cute - Check out the website Stuff on my Cat.  People submit pictures of literally stuff on their cat.  It can be super cute and great for kids.  http://stuffonmycat.com/

3. Entertaining - Overall I think the company 80s Tees brings a lot of entertainment to their shopping experience.  Not only is shopping on their website fun but it's entertaining to kind of reminisce and remember the things you loved from the 80s.  So fun to check out their items for sale.  http://www.80stees.com/

The point of all of this is to be memorable to your target customers.  When they remember your marketing they increase brand loyalty and in return increase sales.

3 Great New Years Resolutions for Your Business

1. Green Your Biz.  Going green is something that is really popular and important in today's world.  People are learning the importance of the environment and the impact we have on it.  Going green will save your business money, make you feel good and increase customer respect.

2. Go Local.  This is harder financially, but see where it can work and benefit your business.  Start by looking at local suppliers, you will be surprised what you will find.  When you support the community the community supports you.

3. Be Open to change.  2012 is going to be bringing so much change in marketing and even more in social media.  Position your business to be able to adapt and accept these changes.  It will only help you in the long run.

These three tips are the best way to gain fans in your community.  People are more focused on their local community and it is important that as a business you are too.  It is becoming more important to customers that the businesses they support are socially responsible, remember these are the people who keep you in business.
