TV Shows & Social Media

Here are the Top 3 TV shows that have taught me so much about Social Media.  I actually never believed I would learn anything about marketing from these shows, but I was wrong.

1.  Gossip Girl - Well first off this is a show pretty much about a rumor website that follows the elite of NYC.  Through this show you can learn how important social media is to teenagers today.  It has taught me how teens can't live without these gossip websites, even if the gossip isn't true.  It is also a great way to learn about trends for teens.

2.  Pretty Little Liars - Another teen show about a crazy murder mystery, but it is all centered around technology.  These girls are getting set up or blackmailed by an unknown character through emails and texts.  It has taught me that teens cannot live without their cell phones.  It is something that will not change for years to come.

3.  The Walking Dead - This show is about pretty much the end of the world.  People are getting a virus that turns them into zombies and it's survival of the fittest.  Of course they can't really use technology during the show, but they have some of the best marketing integration.  They have all sorts of fun apps and games to play like killing zombies.  They run contests to find fans to play zombies in the show.  They have really mastered the art of marketing integration between TV, internet and cell phones.

In conclusion you must keep these things in mind when creating marketing:  try to be trendy, cell phones are still the future and integrate everything!

Why You Should Retweet

Here's Why You Should Retweet:

1.  Gain More Fans - If you are interested in some of the same things then people will start to follow you.  Maybe you liked a joke from a comedian or a quote from an actor if you retweet it will only broaden your fan base.

2.  Different Insight - Maybe your fans don't pay attention to the crazy stuff Chris Brown is saying or following the live WW2 tweets as they happened so why not retweet the entertaining stuff, bringing a different insight to your twitter handle.

3.  Important Stuff - You should always retweet the important stuff like news stories or sports scores.  Your fans will like that they can rely on you for the important stuff.

In conclusion retweet anything relevant that is entertaining and will 
not hurt your brand.  You do not want to offend anyone by doing this.

I Heart Etsy

I love Etsy and I think you will too!  Here's why:

1.  Handmade & Vintage - Do I have to say more?  Who doesn't love something that has a little extra love from being homemade or having a vintage classic?

2.  Easy Communication - You can send messages to personal sellers if you have any questions or maybe you want them to make you something custom.  It's really great for personal gifts - I was able to find a girl who make these great clutches for my bridesmaids.  Everything about using Etsy was fantastic.

3.  Circles - It is really easy to find your friends through your address book to add them to your circle.  Then you can view what your friends have for sale or what they're favorite things are!

I would always recommend this to friends & family.

Love Your Business!

We've all heard the saying that you can't love someone until you love yourself.  This is very true in real life as it is in business.  
Here is how to properly LOVE your business!

1.  Love Your Co - Have some pride in your company.  If you don't love it then change it until you do love it!  When you express pride in your business your loyal customers will too.

2.  Express Your Love - Tell other people that you love your business.  Of course you don't want to brag, but when you are talking to your friends or out networking talk about your company.  Who knows it may open the door to some new opportunities that you didn't know existed.

3.  Marketing Love - Incorporate your love into your marketing!  Express your love for the company by integrating it into your marketing.  Try to show why you love your company through advertising.

3 Fav Ads this Week

My Favorite 3 Ads Today

In today's world you need to be thinking outside of the box in order to make any sales.  These 3 ads capture three main ideas that puts your advertising above your competitors.

1.  Realistic - What an easy cheap idea for this coffee company.  I say it's cheap for them since they proably already vinyl wrap their machines so why not make it catch some attention by making it look like someone is brewing the coffee for you.  This is extremely clever because it makes a non-customer service oriented business interactive and personal.
2. Eyecatching - Anyone whose walking these streets are sure to notice the bright white of the Mr Clean advertising.  It is so white it gives you the impression it cleans everything.  This just goes to show how colors in your advertising can sway your customer's mind into positive thinking about your brand.
3. Funny - A small idea that a t-shirt company has added extra love to their tees by making them enjoyable.  Of course they are poking fun at animal cruelty, but that's comedy.  If you can't laugh in life then you're doing something wrong.

Green Marketing

Green marketing saves money while protecting the environment.  It's also trendy right now so why not?  Here are some easy ways to switch to green marketing for your business:

1.  Go Paperless - It's easier that you think plus you won't have to file.  Always make some backups in case.  Use PDF documents for your official paperwork so changes can't be made, send receipts via email and send emails internally.  Tons of companies offer paperless billing so it's much more accepted in the internet age.  If you do have to use paper then use both sides of the paper.  This is a great way to save money and time.
2.  Green Coupons - Use apps and social media to send coupons electronically to your customers.  They can then use their smart phones to save some money.  If you aren't doing this it is great to start, you can open up the doors to a whole new market.
3.  Recycled / Upcycled Materials - If you can switch to different materials to make your marketing greener.  If you can incorporate something easy that saves money customers will love it.  For example I love making my own tags for gifts so when I sell something I handwrite a thank you note with each product I sell.  I use materials I have around the house and try to add a whimsical touch.  It's very personable and saves money because I am using available resources.

Best Twitter Resources

Here are some of the best Twitter resources:

1.  Twitter Resources - If you don't have a follow me button on your website, newsletter, etc... What are you waiting for?  It's super simple make sure you use a button too because Twitter users recognize the logo.  You should put a widget on your site too it's easy and will help to tie your social media accounts and website together.
2.  TweepsMap - Analyzing tool that shows you on a map where your twitter followers are located.  It's real fun to see whose out there.  You can break it down by: Country, State and City.  Make sure you click list to see a breakdown of all your followers. 88% of my followers are from #USA, 70% from #NewYork, 48% from #Buffalo. 
3.  Twitter Counter - Tracks your tweets and followers by day, week, month...  To get anything else out of this you need to pay for it.  But it's nice to have an easy to read tracking of your overall stats.

February Hot Topics

Make sure you incorporate some of February's Hot Topics into your marketing.  Here's what people will be talking about this month so prep ahead of time.

1. Ground Hog Day - What will Punxsutawney Phil predict this year?? Hopefully Spring will come soon!
2.  Super Bowl - Get ready to be chatting about the game all day on social media sites.  Make sure to brush up on the Giants, Patriots (booo!) and Indianpolis.  You want to be on the ball when your tweeting.  I mean it's already promoted on Twitter
3.  Commercials - Everyone talks about the commercials during the game, usually they are the funniest and set the tone for the rest of the year.  This of course is my favorite part of the game.  It just goes to show if you don't use humor then no one will remember it.
4.  Valentine's Day - Everyone will be all sweet and cute on social media for V-Day.  Make sure to get in on the action.  Send valentines to your fans and spread the love!
5.  Presidents Day - Everyone loves a sale on Holidays.  Presidents Day is always a great day to offer a promotion to your customers!
